Lyrics Submission Tools

We are constantly encouraging artists to publish lyrics to the main lyric databases. So, we felt it would help if we also share a few of the tools that we have.

Here are the links to the tools that we have created and are actively using while processing lyrics for use in various lyric databases.

The workflow

You can use these tools in any order you please, BUT we personally get the most out of these tools when we work in the following order...
  1. Musixmatch
  2. Genius
  3. LyricFind

Format checker for Musixmatch

URL: https://nzwaneveld.github.io/lyricformatter/mxmformatter.html

How to use:
Transcribe or use the lyric transcript provided by the artist.
Note: This tool only triggers when you drag & drop content into the white area of this tool.

If the lyric transcript is in another browser window, you can drag and drop text from that browser window into this tool.

If the lyric transcript is not yet in another browser window, then copy & paste the lyric into the Genius tool. Select the lyrics in the Genius tool, then drag & drop it into the Musixmatch tool.

This tool also fixes a number of common formatting errors. This tool also converts a number of stanza tags used in Genius to stanza tags used by Musixmatch.

Copy & paste the corrected text from the window into the lyric submission area in Musixmatch.

Format checker for Genius

How to use:
Note: This tool only triggers when you drag & drop content into the white area of this tool.

If the lyric transcript is in another browser window, you can drag and drop text from that browser window into this tool. In our recommended way of working, the formatted lyrics are in the Musixmatch editor window, so select the lyrics in Musixmatch and then drag & drop it into the Genius tool.

If the lyric transcript is not yet in another browser window, then copy & paste the lyric into the Musixmatch tool. Select the lyrics in the Musixmatch tool, then drag & drop it into the Genius tool.

This tool also fixes a number of common formatting errors. This tool also converts a number of stanza tags used in Musixmatch to stanza tags used by Genius.

Copy & paste the corrected text from the window into the lyric submission area in Genius.

Convert synced lyrics in Musixmatch to LRC formatted lyrics

How to use:
  • Go to Musixmatch and open your synced lyrics in 'Edit'-mode, and go to the 'Synchronize' tab.
  • Use your mouse to select the text, starting with the '...' and go all the way up to the last line of the lyrics. Ignore the 'End of Song'-label.
  • Now drag the selected text to the browser window with the mxm2lyricfind converter, and drop the text into the large white text area.
  • This tool moves the timestamps in the proper format to the beginning of each line and removes the stanza tags used in Musixmatch.
  • The converted LRC formatted text is already copied into memory, so all you need to do is 'paste' it into the document where you want the LRC formatted lyrics.
  • If you are manually pasting lyrics into the converter, then you will also need to manually start the conversion. Start conversion by clicking on the 'Convert MXM > LRC' button in the bottom left corner of the browser window (you may need to scroll down the browser page to see this button).

Not enough time or too intimidating?

Don't worry, we've got you covered there as well. We offer a service on Fiverr, where we take your lyric transcript and publish it for you to Musixmatch, Genius, and LyricFind. This includes time-syncing the lyrics to the music.

A review and discussion of SubmitHub, PlaylistPush and Musosoup (updated)

I came across a  blog post  by music producer and recording artist Matti Charlton where he evaluated SubmitHub, PlaylistPush, and Musosoup. His review caught my attention because I am familiar with all of these services and wanted to compare his findings (as artist) to my findings (as curator / promotional channel). I must admit that we share some similar thoughts about these services! This post includes some practical tips to help you make the best use of the opportunities that you may come across. (tl,dr:) I.m.h.o. the only service really worth the money is SubmitHub, but finding the right tastemakers on SubmitHub will take time (and money). UPDATE - January 22, 2023: I have added and commented on a response from Musosoup at the end of this post. SubmitHub basics There are various types of channels on SubmitHub. In essence, the channels break down into the following categories: Radio/continuous streaming - play your music on e.g. (Internet) Radio stations, YouTube live streams, etc.

DIY - Getting Your Lyrics Displayed On Spotify, Deezer, Apple Music, ...

Why would you want your lyrics to appear on as many services as possible? If the lyrics to a song are easily accessible, 88% of listeners will view them (e.g. by pressing an icon on a webpage or in an app) The addition of lyrics improves the listening experience. Listeners will be curious about what the artist is saying during live performances where artists are speaking / calling out to the audience (and are less audible). Law requires websites and services to pay royalties each time lyrics are displayed (songwriter royalties). With 88% of listeners viewing song lyrics, having your lyrics displayed on streaming services is a simple way to generate additional royalties! The process that is used to collect these royalties, also ensures that you receive royalties when your song is covered by another artist, when lyrics are used in books, sheet music, etc..   The steps to get your song lyrics on Spotify, Apple Music, etc. is relatively easy... and we have tools and guides to help you. Modeling succesful artists Facebook ads to help grow your own Spotify followers

Maybe you've heard this before... "I tried using Facebook ads to expand my Spotify, but it wasn't working for me. How can I grow the right way?" I personally don't like Facebook ads because I believe that Facebook is more concerned with making money for itself than with helping you. But Facebook is still where most of the 'eyes' are (including the eyes of your target audience), so that is where you need to increase visibility. So let's try to maximize every dollar we spend.  Before I forget, don't 'boost' your posts on Facebook! 'Boosting' posts on Facebook is like flushing money down the toilet. Facebook just takes your money without any lasting results… Facebook has more than 10 campaign objectives that align with business goals, such as increasing sales, leads, brand awareness, and more. Boosted posts are only optimized for engagement which has no correlation to growing sales or brand awareness among other goals. They'll get
